A Day for Love

I’m not going to lie, I used to have mixed emotions about Valentines Day. I wanted love to be shared every day, not just one. I think people should send love letters and stick notes of encouragement around the house or surprise your wife with flowers, just because.

This year I approached the holiday with a fresh mind and an open heart and I have to say it has been a great celebration of love. Ben and I promised not to get each other anything (trying to save for trips is hard) and I knew I had to work late on Valentine’s Day, so we celebrated a day early. It has become a tradition for Ben to cook a meal for us. I have to say, he’s two for two.

We sat around our dining table and enjoyed some frites as we dove into conversation. It was a good change in pace from our informal meals at our bar in the kitchen and small talk before an episode of our favorite comedy show. It feels good to create a quiet space too be able to talk and listen to each other with no distractions.

If you follow along on Instagram, I participated in the 3 sentence love story hashtag. It was created by Audrey Roloff in hopes to spread real, true love stories all over the internet on Valentines Day, I love it. I hope to make it an annual tradition. It’s kinda fun to share your love story as if it were a pitch for a romantic novel or something.

I hope your day has been filled with love, no matter what form it may have came in. Here’s to loving well, not just today, but every day.

We tried so hard to get a picture without Stella in it and she clearly wasn’t having it.
